Katie Millington graduated from Wollongong University in Australia with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Writing). She spent two years travelling the world before settling in London, where she made a steep career climb from waitress to general manager for various Maxwell's Hospitality Group restaurants in Covent Garden. She returned to Australia in 2001 and cut her production fangs on Sydney's independent theatre scene before moving into visual effects production and ultimately to live action film production. Katie joined commercial film company Eight Productions as a shoot producer in 2008. In 2012 she became an Executive Producer and moved to New Zealand to set up Eight's Auckland office. In 2015 she took over both the Sydney and Auckland offices as Managing Director, flying back and forth across the Tasman to oversee productions and operations. Driven by her love of film and storytelling, Katie founded The Story Department. in 2020 and within 2 short years the department had produced and screened two documentary feature films, "More than Gold" (2022) and Beyond Conversion" (2022). After a decade at the helm of Eight, Katie followed a life long dream to return to London where she continues the work of The Story Department producing film and theatre projects in the UK.
Katie’s theatre producing credits include "A Small Town Northern Tale" (coming soon in 2025), "Grit, Glitter and Gaslight- The Sarah McGuinness Story” (2024), “Unspoken” for TRS (winner of the Sydney Theatre award for Best Independent Production 2005), “Edmond” for B-Sharp/Albedo Theatre (Nominated for the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Independent Production 2005) “Dealer’s Choice” for TRS/Albedo Theatre (The Sun Herald Best Fringe Production 2004) and “The Decameron” for TRS (nominated for Sun Herald Best Fringe Production 2002). Katie’s Production Management credits include “Love’s Triumph” for Darlinghurst Theatre and the world premiere of the musical comedy, “This Blasted Earth” for TRS, featuring original music by Tim Minchin.
Katie's poetry credits includes a photo poetry collaboration with photographer Daniel Max, "Paper Flowers" (2021), various poems published in The New Zealand Poetry Society's quarterly magazine, "A Fine Line" (2020-22), and Poetry Live's 40th Anniversary Anthology, "This Twilight Menagerie" (2020).
